Pinnacle Natural Area Preserve, located near Honaker in southwestern Virginia, offers visitors a distinctive outdoor experience shaped by dramatic limestone cliffs and dense forest landscapes. This preserve stands out in the region for its geological features, especially the towering Pinnacle ridge—a steep limestone formation that creates sweeping views of the surrounding valleys. Its unique location includes the rare Shale Barren ecosystem, home to specialized plant species such as the Shale Barren Rockcress, which is found only here and a few other places globally. Maintained trails, benches, picnic areas, and informative signage throughout the preserve contribute to an inviting atmosphere.
