Towering Echoes: Discover Tower Arch in Moab

Tower Arch: Natural Wonder Near Moab, Utah

Tower Arch, located near Moab in southeastern Utah, is among the most impressive rock formations in Arches National Park. This striking natural arch rises approximately 43 feet high and spans 92 feet wide, set atop a rugged sandstone ridge that provides breathtaking views of the surrounding desert landscape and the distant La Sal Mountains. Unlike the busier areas of the park, Tower Arch offers a more solitary experience, making it a perfect destination for visitors seeking to appreciate raw nature without the crowds.

The trail to Tower Arch crosses stunning geological features including sandstone fins and balanced rocks, displaying the unique erosional forces at work in the region. Visitors will find that the red sandstone landscape contrasts beautifully with the green desert shrubs dotting the hillside. The hike itself is about 2.5 miles roundtrip and presents moderate difficulty, with a steeper climb near the beginning but mostly gentle terrain thereafter. Along the way, hikers pass famous formations such as the “Marching Men” — a series of tall, narrow sandstone pillars. For many, the highlight is arriving at the arch and gazing up at this massive, naturally carved gateway that feels truly colossal against the blue sky.

Since Arches National Park was established in 1929, Tower Arch has become a celebrated spot for photographers and nature lovers alike. The location’s remote feel, combined with the scale and beauty of the arch and surrounding rock formations, makes it one of the park’s lesser-known but highly rewarding highlights.
