The Allure of Eagle Falls

Postcard Overview: Eagle Falls Waterfall in Kentucky’s Appalachian Region

Eagle Falls, located near the quaint city of Corbin in southeastern Kentucky, offers visitors a remarkable experience within the Cumberland Falls State Resort Park. This waterfall stands out as a breathtaking sight on the highly scenic Cumberland River, where water cascades down steep sandstone cliffs into a crystal-clear pool below. What makes Eagle Falls exceptional in this region is its rugged terrain and the rewarding views it provides—not only of itself but also of the adjacent Cumberland Falls, often called the “Niagara of the South.” The trail leading to Eagle Falls reveals unique rock formations shaped by centuries of erosion and supports a thriving forest habitat filled with local wildflowers, mosses, and songbirds.

The waterfall’s height and powerful flow make it a favorite destination for hikers and photographers alike. Some visitors appreciate the possibility of walking behind the curtain of falling water to witness rainbows forming in the mist, while others enjoy quiet moments at the pool’s edge, soaking in the natural ambiance. The area is also rich in history, with remnants of the old Six Gun City ghost town visible along the route, linking visitors with the region’s past. Though it demands steady footing and some physical fitness due to steep stairs and rocky paths, those who reach Eagle Falls find the effort thoroughly worthwhile.
