Splashing Serenity at Chapman Falls

Cascading Beauty at Chapman Falls, East Haddam

Chapman Falls, located in the heart of East Haddam, Connecticut, offers visitors a stunning natural escape highlighted by a 60-foot waterfall dropping over ancient volcanic rock formations. Situated within Devil's Hopyard State Park, this waterfall stands out for its powerful flow that varies with the seasons, creating a dynamic scene amid the surrounding forest. The geological features here are distinctive—potholes carved deeply into the bedrock give the falls a dramatic and rare appearance, tied to local folklore about the devil himself shaping the rocks centuries ago.

The falls are fed by the Eightmile River, and the water channels through rugged stone ledges before pooling below, making Chapman Falls an ideal spot for those who appreciate geological history and soothing water sounds. The vibrant mix of hardwood trees, especially prominent in spring and autumn, frames the falls and attracts photographers and nature lovers alike. Access is straightforward, with a parking lot close by and well-marked trails that offer varied terrain for both casual visitors and seasoned hikers.

Historically, Devil’s Hopyard State Park was established in the early 20th century, preserving this unique landscape for generations.
