About Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary

Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary, managed by the Massachusetts Audubon Society, encompasses approximately 1,500 acres of forests, wetlands, fields, and ponds in Natick, Massachusetts. The sanctuary provides critical habitat for a variety of native plants and animals, including migratory birds, deer, and many other mammals and amphibians. Its diverse ecosystems include mixed hardwood forests, freshwater marshes, and upland meadows, making it an important refuge within a suburban landscape. Visitors can explore over 9 miles of well-maintained trails, including boardwalks through wetlands and shaded woodland paths. The sanctuary features the Dragonfly Trail, a popular loop that highlights the area's wetland ecology, and the Tucker Trail, which climbs to scenic overlooks of the surrounding landscape. Historically, the land was used for farming before being restored and set aside as a wildlife sanctuary. Broadmoor also offers various educational programs focused on bird watching, environmental stewardship, and native plant gardening. The sanctuary draws local hikers, birders, photographers, and families for year-round recreation and environmental education. Seasonal highlights include spring wildflowers and migrating songbirds, summer dragonflies and butterflies, fall foliage views, and winter snowshoeing opportunities. Its proximity to Boston and ease of access make it a popular destination for quick nature excursions and outdoor learning.
