Located in northeast Arkansas, Wapanocca National Wildlife Refuge encompasses approximately 5,484 acres of bottomland hardwood forest, wetlands, oxbow lakes, and sloughs along the St. Francis River floodplain. Established in 1961, the refuge provides vital habitat for a wide diversity of wildlife, including numerous migratory birds, waterfowl, and resident species. The refuge’s swampy forests and flooded wetlands create essential breeding grounds for wood ducks, great blue herons, egrets, and a variety of songbirds.
