Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is located in the Amargosa Valley of southern Nevada. This refuge encompasses over 23,000 acres of spring-fed wetlands and alkaline desert uplands. It is renowned for its rare and unique ecosystems, as it harbors an impressive number of endemic species, including the famous Devil's Hole pupfish. The refuge offers a glimpse into an ancient ecosystem, providing critical habitat for over 30 endemic plants and animals found only in this location. Historically, the area has been a pivotal site for human settlement, and its preservation is vital for the ecological balance of the region. Key recreation activities here include various trails for hiking, boardwalks for nature observation, and opportunities for photography of its unusual landscapes and vibrant wildlife.
