Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

White Cloud Wilderness, part of the larger Sawtooth National Recreation Area in central Idaho, features a diverse landscape characterized by rugged peaks, glaciated valleys, and pristine alpine lakes. The area's geology is defined by the limestone and granite peaks of the White Cloud Mountains, which offer dramatic vistas for visitors. Ecologically, the region supports a variety of wildlife, including elk, mountain goats, and the elusive wolverine, as well as diverse plant life that thrives in the alpine and subalpine zones.
