Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve

The Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve (KMTR) is located in the southern Western Ghats of Tamil Nadu and was established in 1988 to protect the region’s rich forest ecosystems and endangered species, particularly tigers. Covering a large area of dense tropical evergreen forests, moist deciduous forests, and grasslands, KMTR spans parts of Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts. The terrain is rugged, marked by hill ranges, valleys, and perennial streams such as the Tamirabarani River which flows through the reserve, supporting its diverse flora and fauna.
