About East Fork State Wildlife Area

East Fork State Wildlife Area is a 4,870-acre protected area located along the northern shore of East Fork Lake in Clermont County, Ohio. The area serves as an important habitat for a variety of wildlife species, including white-tailed deer, wild turkey, waterfowl, and many migratory birds. The landscape is characterized by a blend of mature hardwood forests, wetlands, grasslands, and open water, creating a rich ecological environment. Established to provide public hunting and fishing opportunities, East Fork also supports other outdoor activities such as hiking, birdwatching, and photography. The surrounding East Fork Lake, formed by damming the East Fork of the Little Miami River, expands the recreational options to boating and paddle sports. Seasonal waterfowl migrations make the area popular for birding enthusiasts, while managed hunting seasons offer white-tailed deer and small game hunting in designated zones. Several marked trails wind through the wildlife area, providing access to scenic vistas and undisturbed natural settings. Visitors can also explore adjacent East Fork Lake State Park. The area’s history is closely linked to the impoundment project completed in the late 1960s by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to control flooding and improve water resources in the Little Miami River watershed. Today, East Fork State Wildlife Area balances conservation and recreation, maintaining habitats for native species while offering ample opportunities to enjoy Ohio’s outdoors. Its proximity to Cleveland and Cincinnati makes it a convenient destination for day trips and weekend outings.
