About Schramm State Recreation Area

Schramm State Recreation Area spans over 550 acres along the Platte River in eastern Nebraska. Known for its rolling hills, hardwood forests, wetlands, and riverine habitats, the park provides a rich environment for wildlife and outdoor activities. The area was formerly farmland before being developed into a state recreation area focused on conserving natural qualities while offering access for fishing, hiking, and paddling. The Platte River offers a scenic waterway for boating and wildlife observation, especially birding, as the river corridor is a critical migratory path. The terrain ranges from river bottoms to limestone bluffs, creating diverse ecosystems including wetlands that support amphibians and waterfowl. Schramm SRA features a well-maintained trail system catering to hikers and mountain bikers, and its campground is popular with families and anglers. Winter visitors can also enjoy quiet snowshoeing or cross-country skiing when conditions allow. The park is managed by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, which has preserved much of its natural character. Its proximity to Omaha makes it an accessible spot for day trips or weekend excursions. The park’s amenities include picnic areas, modern campgrounds, and a visitor center to support recreational and educational activities. Schramm provides an excellent combination of water-based and land-based pursuits surrounded by native Midwestern landscapes.
