Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Ravine Gardens State Park, located in Palatka, Florida, showcases distinctive steephead ravines that are a geological marvel in Florida's mostly flat landscape. Established in 1933, the park was initially created as a public works project during the Great Depression. It was designed with formal gardens that featured over 270,000 azaleas, providing a vibrant display every spring. The park covers approximately 152 acres and is celebrated for its hiking trails that weave through diverse ecosystems, including hardwood forests and subtropical gardens. Visitors can explore the 1.8-mile paved loop drive for panoramic views of the ravines or walk along one of several unpaved trails for a closer look at native flora and fauna. The park offers picnic areas and two suspension bridges, adding to its charm and appeal. With its rich history and stunning natural beauty, Ravine Gardens State Park offers a peaceful retreat and a glimpse into Florida’s cultural and natural heritage.
