The park is situated near the borough of Port Allegany and surrounded by a landscape of rolling hills, forested terrain, and small waterways. The park’s centerpiece is a man-made 17-acre lake offering fishing and non-motorized boating. The surrounding forests are primarily mixed hardwood and pine, providing habitat for white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and various songbirds. The park’s trails traverse gentle terrain, making it accessible to a wide range of visitors seeking hiking and nature observation. Established in 1951, the park includes picnic areas, a swimming pool, playgrounds, and a campground, appealing to families and outdoor enthusiasts. History in the area is tied closely to the lumber industry and the area's Native American heritage, with some interpretative signage on site. Port Allegany State Park remains a low-key destination favored for its tranquil atmosphere and suitability for day trips or short camping getaways, particularly for visitors from nearby cities such as Bradford and Olean.
