Longhorn Cavern State Park is located in the Texas Hill Country near Burnet, Texas. The park covers an area of rugged limestone hills and woodlands above the cavern, providing a scenic and ecologically diverse environment. The centerpiece is Longhorn Cavern itself, a stunning geological formation created primarily by the erosion of an ancient river system millions of years ago. The cavern contains unique formations such as stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones, and rare speleothems, which illustrate the area’s rich geologic history. The cavern was used by prehistoric peoples, and later by Native Americans and early Texans, including serving as a speakeasy and dance hall during Prohibition.
