Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Indiana Dunes State Park, located on the southern shore of Lake Michigan in northern Indiana, encompasses approximately 2,182 acres of remarkable natural landscapes and diverse ecosystems. The park is home to more than 15 miles of hiking trails that traverse sandy dunes, wetland ecosystems, lush forests, and sensitive prairie grasslands. This ecologically rich area provides habitat for a variety of plant and animal species, making it an important site for wildlife enthusiasts. The park's sand dunes, some towering up to 200 feet, are remnants of ancient glacial formations and provide breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding areas.
