Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Goose Island State Park, located along the Gulf Coast of Texas, provides a dynamic landscape that combines coastal prairies, salt marshes, and oak woodlands. Established in 1931, it covers approximately 321 acres and is uniquely characterized by its close proximity to both marine and terrestrial ecosystems. Among its notable features is the 'Big Tree,' a colossal live oak estimated to be over 1,000 years old. This park is a sanctuary for bird watchers, as it lies along the Central Flyway where migratory birds such as whooping cranes can be spotted in their season. Fishing along the 1,620-foot-long pier offers bountiful catches of speckled trout and red drum. With its campgrounds adjacent to the scenic Aransas Bay and plentiful picnic spots, the park is perfect for family outings, photography, and nature education.
