Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Cunningham Falls State Park is located in the Catoctin Mountains of Frederick County, Maryland. It is named after a prominent waterfall, Cunningham Falls, which is the largest cascading waterfall in Maryland. The park is divided into two distinct areas: the William Houck Area, which has the waterfall and a man-made lake, and the Manor Area, which houses the historic Catoctin Iron Furnace. The park's diverse habitat is home to a variety of plant and animal species, providing excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. Visitors can explore miles of hiking trails, enjoy boating and fishing on Hunting Creek Lake, or participate in picnicking and camping in the well-maintained campsites. The park's historical significance, combined with its natural beauty, makes it a popular destination for both relaxation and adventure.
