Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Big Arm State Park is situated on the western shore of Flathead Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi River. Encompassing over 200 acres, the park provides a serene setting with expansive views of the lake and surrounding Rocky Mountains. The park's geography includes a variety of landscapes, from gentle slopes and pebble beaches to rocky outcrops and rolling hills. Ecologically, it is home to diverse plant and wildlife species, with opportunities to observe deer, osprey, and eagles in their natural habitat. Historically, the area was significant for the Flathead (Salish) tribe, and nearby wildflower meadows add beauty and ecological diversity to the region. Visitors can partake in an array of activities, including hiking, camping, fishing, and boating. The park's allure is further enhanced by its accessibility and proximity to Glacier National Park, making it a favored spot for both relaxation and adventure.
