Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Bahia Honda State Park, located in the Lower Florida Keys, encompasses over 500 acres and is renowned for its picturesque beaches and crystal-clear waters. The park is a haven for nature lovers, offering a variety of outdoor recreation activities such as swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, and beachcombing. The park's beaches, considered some of the best in the U.S., are perfect for sunbathing and relaxation. Snorkelers can explore the nearby Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary to view vibrant coral reefs and colorful aquatic life. Historically, the park area was part of the overseas railway route to Key West. While much of the railway is gone, visitors can see remnants of the old Bahia Honda Bridge. The park's unique flora and fauna, including rare plants and migratory bird species, contribute to its ecological significance. Bahia Honda State Park's appeal lies in its natural beauty and opportunity for tranquil beachside experiences.
