About Willard Bay State Park

Willard Bay State Park is located in Box Elder County, Utah, on the southern edge of Willard Bay Reservoir, a freshwater lake formed by the Willard Bay Dam on the Great Salt Lake's northern arm. Spanning over 5,000 acres, the park provides a variety of environments including open water, wetlands, and surrounding grassy shorelines. The reservoir was completed in the 1960s primarily for irrigation, but the park has evolved into a popular destination for fishing, boating, and birdwatching. The water body supports species such as largemouth bass, white bass, and walleye, making it a hotspot for anglers. Migratory birds including pelicans, herons, and various waterfowl use the bay as an important habitat during seasonal movements. Visitors enjoy camping in well-maintained sites close to the water, as well as engaging in swimming, windsurfing, and paddleboarding. Several trails in the park offer gentle walks with views of the reservoir and nearby mountain ranges, particularly the Wellsville Mountains. The park's location, about 15 miles south of Brigham City and within easy reach of Ogden, provides accessible outdoor recreation opportunities throughout the year. Willard Bay State Park attracts families, outdoor enthusiasts, and bird watchers seeking a moderate climate and abundant water-related activities in northern Utah.
