About Tuttle Creek State Park

Tuttle Creek State Park surrounds the expansive Tuttle Creek Lake, a reservoir on the Big Blue River in northeastern Kansas. The park covers a large area adjoining the lake, providing a range of outdoor activities amid a mix of forested hills, open grasslands, and riparian habitats. The reservoir was created in the 1960s as a flood control and water resource project, and since then the area has become a popular destination for anglers, campers, and water sports enthusiasts. The park features over 20 miles of multi-use trails winding through diverse ecosystems, including oak-hickory forests and wetlands, which support species such as white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and numerous songbirds. Visitors can fish for crappie, catfish, and bass in the lake’s clean waters or launch boats from multiple ramps. Several developed campgrounds and cabins provide accommodations, while picnic sites and playgrounds make it family-friendly. The park is also a favored location for hunting during designated seasons. Key landmarks within the park include scenic overlooks with expansive views of the lake and remnants of native prairie. The park’s location approximately 10 miles north of Manhattan, Kansas, makes it accessible for a day trip or weekend getaway. Its combination of water-based recreation, trail exploration, and wildlife viewing attracts a wide range of visitors throughout the year.
