About Tappan Lake State Park

Located in Harrison County, Ohio, Tappan Lake State Park surrounds Tappan Lake, a reservoir created in 1938 by damming Tappan Creek. The park covers mixed hardwood forests, rolling hills, and a 2,350-acre lake, providing habitat for a diverse range of wildlife including white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and a variety of fish species like largemouth bass and crappie. Developed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, the park serves both recreational and conservation roles. Visitors can enjoy over 17 miles of multi-use trails suited for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The expansive lake offers boating with multiple boat ramps, fishing from shore or pier, and winter ice fishing when conditions allow. Campgrounds within the park provide developed sites with electric hookups and primitive areas for tent campers, complemented by cabins and picnic facilities. The park’s natural beauty combined with accessible recreational options attracts families, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts year-round. Nearby small towns provide additional amenities and local charm. Tappan Lake itself is recognized for warm-water fishing and scenic water views, making it a key feature of the park’s appeal. Visitors appreciate the balance of forest and water environments and the peaceful atmosphere away from urban centers.
