About Shawnee State Park

Located in Scioto County in southern Ohio, Shawnee State Park encompasses approximately 2,500 acres of forested hills, wetlands, and Shawnee Lake. The park lies within the scenic Shawnee Hills region, an area known for steep ridges and dense hardwood forests dominated by oak, hickory, and maple. Established in 1922, it stands as one of Ohio’s oldest state parks. The park’s mixed hardwood ecosystem provides habitat for white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and numerous songbirds, making it a popular destination for wildlife observation. Visitors can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking on more than 17 miles of trails, boating and fishing on the 225-acre lake, camping at well-equipped campgrounds, and mountain biking along designated routes. The park is also home to the Shawnee Lodge and Conference Center, which offers lodging and event facilities. Notable landmarks include the scenic Lover’s Leap Overlook, where views extend across the rolling hills and Shawnee Lake, and the park’s network of secluded trails through rugged terrain. The accessibility, varied recreational opportunities, and tranquil atmosphere make Shawnee State Park a favored destination for families, anglers, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts seeking a natural retreat in Ohio’s Appalachian foothills.
