About Pleasant Hill Lake Park

Pleasant Hill Lake Park encompasses over 1,200 acres surrounding the 783-acre Pleasant Hill Lake, located near Perrysville in Ashland County, Ohio. The park is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and provides a scenic outdoor experience characterized by mixed hardwood forests, wetlands, and open water habitats. The lake was created by damming Clear Fork Mohican River and serves as a regional flood control project. The park features multiple campgrounds that accommodate tent and RV campers, well-maintained hiking and mountain biking trails, picnic areas, and boat ramps for fishing and water sports. Ecologically, the park supports a diverse range of wildlife including white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and various waterfowl species, making it a favored spot for nature watchers. Historically, the area was developed as part of flood management initiatives in the mid-20th century but has since evolved into a popular destination for local outdoor enthusiasts, preserving both natural and recreational resources. Visitors can enjoy scenic views from several overlook points, launch kayaks or canoes, and fish for species such as largemouth bass, bluegill, and crappie. The park’s trails provide opportunities for moderately challenging hikes through lush forests and along the lake's shoreline. The combination of water-based activities and extensive forested areas creates a balanced set of outdoor experiences for families, anglers, hikers, and campers. Pleasant Hill Lake Park's proximity to nearby small towns and highways makes it an accessible nature escape within Ohio’s diverse outdoor offerings.
