About Mosquito Lake State Park

Located in Stevens County in northeastern Washington, Mosquito Lake State Park encompasses the 618-acre Mosquito Lake and surrounding forests and meadows. The park's varied terrain includes gently rolling hills, dense mixed conifer forests, and open water, creating habitat for a variety of wildlife including bald eagles, osprey, deer, and waterfowl. Historically, the area was used by Native American tribes and later by homesteaders before becoming a state park in 1963. Mosquito Lake offers visitors a range of recreational opportunities including fishing, boating, swimming, and waterskiing on the lake’s clear waters. On land, visitors can explore over 10 miles of multi-use trails suitable for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The park is well-regarded for its family-friendly camping areas with both primitive and developed sites offering picnic facilities, playgrounds, and boat launches. Bird watchers and nature lovers often visit to experience the abundant wildlife and peaceful natural setting. Mosquito Lake State Park’s relatively low visitor density compared to larger parks provides a tranquil atmosphere. Winter months bring opportunities for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on quiet trails. The park is accessible via State Route 395, about 15 miles south of the Canadian border and close to the towns of Chewelah and Colville.
