About McConnell's Mill State Park

Located in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, McConnell's Mill State Park covers over 2,546 acres along the Slippery Rock Creek Gorge. The park features a dramatic sandstone canyon carved by the creek providing scenic cliffs, dramatic waterfalls, and dense forests of oak, maple, and hemlock. The centerpiece is McConnell's Mill, a restored 19th-century water-powered gristmill that stands as a testament to early industry in the region. The park's geology is dominated by the sandstone cliffs and rock formations which attract rock climbers and photographers. Visitors can explore more than 14 miles of varied hiking trails winding through rugged terrain and along the creek, including the challenging Slippery Rock Gorge Trail. The park is also popular for fishing, with trout stocked in the creek, and for whitewater kayaking in the gorge's rapids in the spring. Wildlife includes white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and various songbirds, making it a favored spot for birdwatching and nature study. Seasonal events and interpretive programs at the historic mill educate visitors about the site's industrial past and natural environment. The combination of scenic beauty, outdoor adventure, and historical significance makes McConnell's Mill State Park a popular destination for families, hikers, climbers, and anglers.
