About Lake Claiborne State Park

Lake Claiborne State Park is located on the shores of Lake Claiborne, a 6,400-acre man-made reservoir formed by the damming of Bayou D'Arbonne, situated near Homer in Claiborne Parish, northern Louisiana. The park covers roughly 643 acres of pine and hardwood forests and provides access to abundant water-based and land-based recreational activities. The lake supports fishing species such as largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, and bream, attracting anglers year-round. Boating and paddle sports such as kayaking and canoeing are popular activities, with multiple boat ramps and a marina providing easy lake access. The park includes 12 miles of multi-use trails winding through rolling hills, pine stands, and mixed hardwood forests, suitable for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Visitors can camp in developed campgrounds, rent cabins, or use picnic areas with picturesque lake views. The park’s history is tied to the construction of the lake in the 1960s by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, designed for flood control, water supply, and recreation. Lake Claiborne State Park is a favored destination for families, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts seeking a quiet getaway with scenic lakefront vistas, abundant wildlife including deer and birds, and well-maintained facilities. Seasonal events are occasionally held, enhancing community engagement. Its combination of lake recreation and forested trails makes it a unique spot in northern Louisiana’s outdoor landscape.
