About Lake Bob Sandlin State Park

Lake Bob Sandlin State Park, located in northeastern Texas near the town of Pittsburg, sits on the shores of a 7,200-acre reservoir impounded on Big Cypress Creek. Opened to the public in 1993, the park provides a peaceful setting combining water-based and land-based outdoor activities. The park's terrain features diverse habitats including forested woodlands dominated by oak and pine species, as well as open grasslands and the reservoir's aquatic environments. This mix of environments supports abundant wildlife such as white-tailed deer, various waterfowl, and occasional bobcats. The lake is renowned for its excellent fishing, particularly for species like largemouth bass, catfish, crappie, and sunfish. Multiple boat ramps and a fishing pier provide ample access for anglers. Visitors can explore over 10 miles of hiking and biking trails, including looped routes passing through shaded groves and along the water’s edge. Campsites, both primitive and developed, allow visitors to extend their stay, with some sites offering lake views and easy access to the water. Notable landmarks within the park include the scenic Lake Bob Sandlin, nature viewing platforms, and interpretive panels explaining local ecology and cultural history. The park's tranquil setting and combination of aquatic and forest recreation draws outdoor enthusiasts year-round, appealing to anglers, bird watchers, families, and campers seeking a less crowded destination in East Texas.
