About Harry S. Truman State Park

Harry S. Truman State Park is located near Warsaw, Missouri, on the southern shores of the Harry S. Truman Reservoir, a large man-made lake formed by the damming of the Osage River. Covering a total area of approximately 1,440 acres, the park combines forested landscapes with waterfront access, providing a mix of rolling hills, hardwood forests, and open water. The reservoir itself stretches over 55,000 surface acres and offers one of the most popular destinations for fishing and boating in the region. The park was created in 1976 and named after the 33rd President of the United States, Harry S. Truman, a native of Missouri. Visitors can enjoy well-maintained campgrounds featuring both developed and primitive sites, along with picnic areas and a marina for boat rentals and launches. Trails in the park offer moderate hiking and biking routes through oak-hickory forests that provide opportunities to spot local wildlife such as white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and numerous bird species. The park is also popular for water sports including kayaking, canoeing, and jet skiing. Seasonal events, including fishing tournaments and nature programs, enhance the visitor experience. Its location near the Osage River Valley provides scenic views and easy access from nearby towns. The combination of water-based recreation and wooded trails makes Harry S. Truman State Park a versatile destination for outdoor enthusiasts seeking both active and relaxing activities in the heartland of Missouri.
