About Glendalough State Park

Glendalough State Park is located in west-central Minnesota near the town of Battle Lake. The park spans nearly 1,900 acres and features a diverse landscape of rolling hills, prairies, wetlands, and two prominent lakes—Idylwilde and Annie Battle. These glacial lakes attract anglers and paddlers throughout the warmer months. The park was established in 1992 and protects a mix of hardwood and conifer forests along with open meadow areas that provide habitat for wildlife such as white-tailed deer, foxes, beavers, and a variety of bird species including loons and warblers. Visitors can enjoy activities year-round, including hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing, camping, and cross-country skiing in winter. The trail system is well marked and includes interpretive trails that educate visitors about the natural and cultural history of the area. Glendalough is also appreciated for its quiet, less crowded environment compared to bigger state parks in Minnesota, making it ideal for those seeking peaceful natural experiences. In addition to outdoor recreation, the park features picnic areas and a camper cabin for visitors seeking comfort along with nature. The park is managed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and remains a favored destination for families and outdoor lovers in the region.
