About Duck Lake State Park

Duck Lake State Park is located in Muskegon County, Michigan, adjacent to the town of Ravenna. The park centers around Duck Lake, a clear, spring-fed lake spanning roughly 134 acres, renowned for its clean waters and sandy beach. Elevation changes gently around the shoreline, creating accessible swimming areas and scenic spots for picnicking. The surrounding hardwood forest hosts a variety of trees such as oak, maple, and pine, supporting diverse wildlife including white-tailed deer, beavers, raccoons, and numerous bird species like herons and woodpeckers. The park's wetlands and small streams are important ecological zones providing habitat for amphibians and waterfowl. Established in 1966, Duck Lake State Park covers approximately 67 acres and serves as a popular local destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy hiking on several marked trails that wind around the lake and through the forest, along with opportunities for mountain biking. The lake is heavily used for fishing—species found here include bass, bluegill, and northern pike. Winter activities such as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are common when conditions permit. Designated picnic areas and a children’s playground make the park family-friendly. Its proximity to Muskegon and other regional attractions make it an accessible day-trip or weekend getaway spot for residents and tourists alike.
