About Crawford State Park

Crawford State Park is located in western Colorado near the small town of Crawford and offers visitors a peaceful natural retreat in the foothills of the North Fork Valley. The park centers around Crawford Reservoir, a man-made lake created by impounding the East Fork of the Gunnison River, providing excellent opportunities for water-based recreation. The 600-acre reservoir is popular for fishing, boating, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Surrounding the reservoir is a mix of open grasslands and piñon-juniper woodlands, which provide habitat for mule deer, elk, and various bird species, making the park a favored spot for wildlife viewing and birdwatching. The park's elevation of about 6,700 feet lends it a semi-arid climate with warm summers and crisp winters. There are several miles of hiking and biking trails that wind around the reservoir and through the woodlands, as well as areas designated for picnicking and camping. The campgrounds are equipped with modern facilities and are well suited for both tent and RV camping. Crawford State Park’s quiet atmosphere and scenic lake views attract anglers targeting trout and bass, and boaters who enjoy a peaceful paddle. The park also serves as a gateway to exploration of the broader Gunnison River basin and nearby Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park for extended adventures. Managed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the park emphasizes preserving its natural setting and providing a safe, family-friendly environment for outdoor enthusiasts.
