Its geography is characterized by a mosaic of tidal creeks, saline lagoons, and fenlands, supporting an array of plant and animal species. Established as a protected site due to its ecological significance, Saltfleetby Marshes has a long-standing history of conservation, originally recognized for its outstanding botanical diversity and as a habitat for rare invertebrates and wintering wading birds.
