About Lake Elmo Park Reserve

Lake Elmo Park Reserve encompasses over 2,000 acres in the eastern Twin Cities metropolitan area, centered around Lake Elmo, a 185-acre natural lake. The park features a variety of landscapes, including hardwood forests, restored prairie lands, wetlands, and rolling hills. Established to provide high-quality recreational opportunities, Lake Elmo Park Reserve serves as a habitat for numerous native plants and wildlife such as white-tailed deer, beavers, and a variety of migratory birds. Visitors can explore over 20 miles of multi-use trails, including hiking and horseback riding paths, that weave through the scenic terrain. The park boasts a popular campground with both electric and non-electric sites, picnic areas, and a sandy swimming beach. The historic Klondike Park area within the reserve offers additional hiking trails and access to the lake shoreline. Anglers can fish for northern pike, bass, and panfish in the lake. The park's balance of natural beauty and modern amenities makes it a favored destination for families, outdoor enthusiasts, and equestrians. Seasonal opportunities extend to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing during the winter months. Educational programs and interpretive signage enrich the visitor experience and promote conservation awareness. Lake Elmo Park Reserve’s location just east of the Twin Cities makes it a convenient natural retreat with year-round outdoor activities.
