About Upper Tampa Bay Park

Upper Tampa Bay Park is located in Hillsborough County, Florida, on the western edge of Tampa near the Oldsmar area. The park preserves over 200 acres of natural estuarine habitat dominated by mangrove forests, tidal wetlands, and salt marshes, providing an important refuge for diverse wildlife and aquatic species. Situated along the upper portion of Tampa Bay, the park includes a wide shoreline offering excellent vantage points for viewing marine life and stunning sunsets. The park's ecosystems support numerous bird species, such as osprey, herons, and egrets, making it a popular destination for bird watchers and nature photographers. Historically, the area served various indigenous groups and later developed for settlement and fishing before protection measures preserved the habitat. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy its accessible trails, a fishing pier, a canoe/kayak launch, and picnic areas surrounded by scenic water views. The park is a peaceful urban escape that combines environmental education with recreation, attracting families, paddlers, anglers, and hikers. Its boardwalks and observation decks allow visitors to explore tidal flats and mangrove tunnels safely while learning about the critical role these ecosystems play in coastal protection and biodiversity.
