About Lake Harriet Regional Park

Lake Harriet Regional Park is located in the southwest section of Minneapolis and centers around Lake Harriet, a 335-acre urban lake surrounded by approximately 2,700 acres of parkland across the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes. The park features a diverse range of ecosystems including wooded areas, open grassy fields, and shoreline habitats that support various wildlife such as waterfowl, turtles, and songbirds. Established in the early 20th century as part of the Minneapolis park system, the park has long been a community hub for outdoor recreation and cultural events. Visitors can stroll or bike along a 2.8-mile paved trail encircling the lake, enjoy boating and fishing, or visit the historic Lake Harriet Bandshell, which hosts free concerts during warmer months. The Peace Garden and the beautiful landscaped Lilac Garden offer quiet spots for reflection and photography, while several picnic areas and playgrounds provide opportunities for family gatherings. Winter activities include cross-country skiing and ice skating on the lake when conditions allow. With its convenient urban location and a variety of recreational and natural amenities, Lake Harriet Regional Park appeals to outdoor enthusiasts, families, and cultural event-goers year-round.
