About Lake Byllesby Regional Park

Located in Dakota County, Minnesota, Lake Byllesby Regional Park centers on Lake Byllesby, a 1,432-acre reservoir formed by the Byllesby Dam on the Cannon River. The park's landscape includes forested hills, open meadows, and wetlands, providing habitat for diverse wildlife such as white-tailed deer, various waterfowl, and migratory birds. Established by Dakota County to offer public recreation, the park is a favored destination for outdoor enthusiasts seeking boating, fishing, swimming, and hiking opportunities. The dam, completed in 1910 originally for hydropower, is a notable historical landmark adjacent to the park. The lake supports popular sport fish species including northern pike, walleye, bass, and panfish, drawing anglers year-round. The park has well-maintained trails for hiking and mountain biking ranging from easy paths to more rugged terrain. In winter, frozen lake surfaces and trails enable snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing. Facilities include picnic areas, a beach, boat launch ramps, and developed campgrounds for tent and RV camping. The park’s combination of scenic water views, accessible recreation, and natural wildlife habitat make it an appealing destination for families, anglers, paddlers, and outdoor adventurers throughout all seasons.
