Grouse Mountain Regional Park is a year-round outdoor destination located just minutes from downtown Vancouver, offering panoramic views, challenging hikes, winter sports, and wildlife experiences.
Grouse Mountain Regional Park sits on the North Shore of Vancouver in British Columbia and serves as one of the most accessible mountain playgrounds in Canada. Rising to an elevation of 4,100 feet (1,250 meters), this park is a natural gateway to the rugged Coast Mountains and offers sweeping views over the Lower Mainland, the Pacific Ocean, and even Mount Baker on a clear day. Managed by Metro Vancouver Regional Parks, the area protects important alpine and subalpine ecosystems, including old-growth Douglas firs, western redcedar, and mountain hemlock forests.
Grouse Mountain is famous for its steep hiking trail known as the Grouse Grind, often dubbed “Mother Nature’s Stairmaster,” drawing thousands of fitness enthusiasts each year. In winter, the mountaintop becomes a snowy wonderland, featuring skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and a lighted skating pond. The mountaintop lodge offers interpretive displays and access to the Skyride, an aerial tramway that transports visitors from the base to the summit in just minutes.
The park also hosts the Grouse Mountain Refuge for Endangered Wildlife, where visitors can see resident grizzly bears and birds of prey up close. Popular for both adventure and education, Grouse Mountain is a family-friendly destination that merges outdoor recreation with environmental stewardship, right on Vancouver’s doorstep.
