Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area is located just south of Fremont, Nebraska, approximately 35 miles northwest of Omaha. It encompasses over 740 acres centered around a series of 20 interconnected spring-fed lakes formed in old quarry pits. The area is managed by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and provides a wide range of recreational activities throughout the year. Its geography is characterized by low rolling hills and abundant water bodies that create an ideal habitat for fish species like largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, channel catfish, walleye, and muskellunge, drawing anglers regionally. The scenic lakes offer opportunities for paddle boating, kayaking, and canoeing during warmer months, while hiking and biking trails wind around the shorelines and the adjacent woodlands. Camping amenities vary from modern, developed campgrounds with electric hookups to primitive sites suitable for tent camping. Winter activities include ice fishing when conditions permit.
