Campgaw Mountain Reservation is a 1,200-acre park located in the Ramapo Mountains of Bergen County, New Jersey. The park features diverse terrain with forested hills, rocky outcrops, and open meadows, providing a natural retreat within close proximity to the New York metropolitan area. Its highest point reaches approximately 900 feet in elevation, offering moderate elevation changes that support a variety of outdoor activities. Ecologically, the area consists mainly of deciduous forest, with species such as oak, maple, and hickory predominant, and serves as habitat for local wildlife including white-tailed deer, squirrels, and numerous bird species. Historically, the land was used for quarrying before being transformed into a public recreation area in the early 20th century. Today, the reservation is best known for its ski area operating in the winter months with multiple ski runs and lifts that attract local snow sports enthusiasts. During warmer months, visitors enjoy hiking and mountain biking on a network of trails that vary in difficulty. Fishing and picnicking also occur around small ponds within the park. Scenic overlooks offer views of the surrounding valleys and distant New Jersey Highlands. Campgaw Mountain is popular for family outings, beginner-friendly climbs, and outdoor instruction sessions such as ski lessons.
