Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Calamus Reservoir State Recreation Area is located in the sandhills of Nebraska, providing a picturesque landscape defined by rolling hills, native grasses, and a large reservoir. This area serves as a popular destination for water-based activities such as boating, fishing, and swimming, thanks to the expansive 5,123-acre reservoir. The area features several campgrounds and picnic spots surrounded by the tranquil environment of the sandhills. Key recreational activities include hiking, horseback riding, and enjoying the peaceful scenery. Popular landmarks include Calamus Fish Hatchery and the scenic overlooks that offer views of the reservoir and surrounding landscapes.
