Blue Marsh Lake is a man-made reservoir located in Berks County, Pennsylvania, created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the Tulpehocken Creek, a tributary of the Schuylkill River. The lake covers approximately 1,148 acres with a surrounding 5,000-acre project area. Constructed in the 1970s for flood control, water quality improvement, and recreation, Blue Marsh Lake has become a valued destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The topography of the area is characterized by rolling hills and forested slopes mixed with open fields around the lake's edge. Ecologically, the area supports a variety of wildlife including white-tailed deer, wild turkey, beavers, and numerous bird species such as bald eagles and ospreys. Blue Marsh Lake provides extensive recreational opportunities—visitors can enjoy boating with several boat launches, fishing for species like bass and trout, hiking on over 20 miles of trails, picnicking, and camping at nearby sites.
