Arapaho National Recreation Area is located in northern Colorado, encompassing over 36,000 acres that feature a series of reservoirs and the spectacular scenery of the Rocky Mountains. Established in 1978, this public land is adjacent to the Continental Divide and includes six major reservoirs—Lake Granby, Shadow Mountain Lake, and Grand Lake being the most notable. These expansive water bodies offer excellent opportunities for boating, fishing, and paddle sports. The area is abundant with wildlife, including moose, elk, and a variety of bird species, which makes it a prime destination for wildlife viewing. With its network of trails, it supports activities ranging from hiking to mountain biking. Historically, the area has been of significant importance to Native American tribes and was later frequented by settlers and explorers.
