About Tully Lake Recreation Area

Tully Lake Recreation Area is located in north-central Massachusetts within The Trustees of Reservations’ protected lands and is managed in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Spanning about 1,200 acres, this area features Tully Lake, a 430-acre reservoir created for flood control and recreational opportunities. The landscape includes mixed hardwood forests, open meadows, and wetlands that support diverse wildlife, such as songbirds, deer, and waterfowl. The area has a rich history tied to the region’s agricultural past before being transformed into a multi-use recreational site. Visitors can enjoy hiking and mountain biking on well-maintained trails, fishing in the lake stocked with trout and bass, and paddling with access to canoe and kayak launches. The campground offers rustic, family-friendly camping with both tent sites and yurts, enhancing overnight experiences in nature. Birdwatchers and photographers find ample opportunities to observe and capture native flora and fauna. Notable features include the lake’s scenic views, open fields that bloom with wildflowers in spring and summer, and quiet forest trails providing a sense of solitude. Tully Lake serves as a popular destination for day-use and extended stays, balancing outdoor recreation with conservation. Its accessibility from major highways in Massachusetts makes it a desirable spot for locals and visitors seeking a less crowded nature experience within the region.
