About Rebecca Spit Marine Provincial Park

Rebecca Spit Marine Provincial Park is located on the east coast of Quadra Island, one of the Discovery Islands in British Columbia, Canada. The park is characterized by a unique sand and gravel spit that extends into the Discovery Passage, creating sheltered waters and tidal flats ideal for marine and birdlife. Covering approximately 77 hectares, the park features diverse coastal ecosystems, including second-growth Douglas fir and western red cedar forests, intertidal zones, and protected coves. This marine park preserves important habitat for various species such as bald eagles, great blue herons, seals, and intertidal invertebrates. Visitors enjoy an accessible 2.4-kilometer loop hiking trail that circles the spit, offering dramatic views of the ocean, nearby islands, and occasional sightings of migrating whales or seals. The park's sheltered waters provide excellent opportunities for kayaking, swimming, and fishing, while the beach areas are suitable for picnicking and relaxing. Historically, the area was used by Coast Salish peoples for fishing and gathering shellfish, and the park now conserves part of this cultural heritage. Rebecca Spit Marine Provincial Park is a favored spot for both locals and tourists due to its easy access from the ferry terminal at Quadra Island’s community of Quathiaski Cove. Its combination of marine, forest, and shoreline environments, along with well-maintained trails and natural beauty, offers an inviting natural retreat.
