The forest is situated near the Assiniboine River and includes part of the Spruce Woods Provincial Park. It is home to a variety of plant and animal species, including oak savannas, jack pine stands, and aspen groves, providing habitat to wildlife such as white-tailed deer, coyotes, foxes, and numerous songbirds. Historically, this area was inhabited by Indigenous peoples and later settled by European immigrants; today, it serves as a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
