Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Skrylle Nature Reserve is located just north of Malmö city in Skåne County, southern Sweden. This protected area covers ancient forests, wetlands, and rolling hills that provide a habitat for a wide variety of plants and animals native to the Scandinavian region. The reserve is valued for its ecological diversity, including old-growth pine and deciduous forests, as well as pristine lakes supporting fish and bird species. Historically, the region has been managed to balance conservation with sustainable outdoor recreation, making it a popular destination for both local residents and tourists. Skrylle offers over 40 kilometers of maintained trails suitable for hiking, running, and mountain biking, including paths that weave through dense woods, open meadows, and along lakeshores. Notable landmarks inside the reserve include the scenic Tommarp meadow area, the Bucks’ Lake (Bockasjön), and several observation towers allowing panoramic views of the surrounding forest canopy. Visitor appeal comes from the peaceful natural setting combined with year-round accessibility, picnic areas, fishing spots, and interpretive information about local flora and fauna.
