About Samur-Davachi Nature Reserve
Samur-Davachi Nature Reserve is located in the northeastern corner of Azerbaijan, along the Caspian Sea coast near the Samur River delta. Established in 1969, it covers a significant portion of the coastal and lowland floodplain ecosystems of the region. The reserve spans the Khachmaz and Siyazan districts, protecting a mosaic of habitats including semi-desert plains, coastal lagoons, dense reed beds, and wetlands.
The reserve serves as an important refuge for migratory and resident bird species, making it a key site for ornithologists and wildlife enthusiasts. It supports over 140 species of birds such as the Dalmatian pelican, white-headed duck, and several species of herons and eagles.
