About Cooper Mountain Nature Park

Cooper Mountain Nature Park spans approximately 231 acres in the uplands south of Beaverton, Oregon. The park features a mix of oak savanna, wetlands, meadows, and forested areas, providing critical wildlife habitat within an urbanizing landscape. Its prominent hilltop location offers sweeping views of the Tualatin Valley, Portland metropolitan area, and on clear days, Mount St. Helens and Mount Hood. Historically, the area was used by Native American tribes, and later as farmland before being protected as a nature park. The Park includes well-maintained trail systems connecting diverse ecosystems and offering visitor engagement through interpretive signage and educational programs coordinated by Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD). Visitors enjoy hiking, birdwatching—especially during spring migration—nature photography, and seasonal wildflower viewing. The park's oak woodlands provide habitat for native species such as western gray squirrels, great horned owls, and a variety of native wildflowers and grasses. Cooper Mountain Nature Park also serves as a community resource for environmental education and outdoor recreation, with easy access from the Portland metro area. Its combination of natural features and proximity to urban centers make it a valued outdoor destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts seeking moderate hikes and nature immersion.
