About Ilisu Natural Park

Ilisu Natural Park is situated in the Ismayilli and Gakh districts of Azerbaijan and covers a mountainous area spanning various ecosystems, including dense broad-leaved forests, subalpine meadows, and river valleys. This park is part of the Greater Caucasus range and lies in close proximity to the historic village of Ilisu. It is renowned for its ecological diversity, serving as habitat for Caucasian endemic species and endangered wildlife such as the East Caucasian tur, bezoar goat, Caucasian lynx, and brown bear. The park showcases a wealth of flora including Oriental beech, Caucasian fir, and rare medicinal plants. Ilisu is culturally significant too, with local mountain communities preserving traditional lifestyles and architecture. Visitors can engage in hiking, wildlife observation, and cultural tours through scenic villages. The natural park also features views of the Kurmuk Pass and deep river gorges with clear streams and waterfalls, making it a picturesque destination. Access to the park encourages sustainable eco-tourism, with marked trails providing routes ranging from easy forest walks to challenging mountain ascents. The park is a critical conservation area protecting endemic species and fragile habitats while offering nature lovers a chance to experience the relatively unspoiled Caucasus highlands. Its combination of biological richness, cultural heritage, and outdoor recreation makes Ilisu Natural Park a notable destination for those exploring Azerbaijan’s natural treasures.
